The following clarifies the requirements for returning scorecards in Stroke Play Competitions.
All cards MUST be returned in Qualifying Competitions, whether complete or not.
It is expected that every player who enters an 18 hole Qualifying Competition intends to complete the round.
After completion of the round, the competitor should check his score for each hole and settle any doubtful points with the Handicap Secretary. They must ensure that the marker has signed the scorecard, sign the card themselves and enter their score on the computer as soon as possible. (Rule 6-6b)
In Medal Play, failure to complete any hole will constitute a Non-Return.
In Stableford Competitions all points scored are valid even though zero points may have been scored on some holes, both in play or by failure to complete the hole.
Failure to correctly return an incomplete card will result in disqualification.
The Handicap Secretary is justified in refusing to accept a card or record a Non-Return when a player has walked in after playing only a few holes for any cause considered to be reasonable. Normally this discretion will not be applied to those abandoning the competition after 9 or 11 holes.
