The Seniors Annual Dinner, held at High Rocks, near Tunbridge Wells, on February
1st went with a swing (straight down the middle)! Over 100 people attended,
including special guests Ramsay and Migs, our head Greenkeeper and his wife,
and also our pro Julian and his girlfriend. The Seniors Captain, Arnold Kingston,
presented all the prizes, with Wyndham Westaway, Vice Captain, as master of
ceremonies, adding a joke or two for the occasion.
John Mitchell did a great job in organising this event (yet again) and High
Rocks did the Seniors proud, with some excellent food and silver service, and
a huge bonus was the superb wine supplied at cost by Sweetwoods member, Jeff
Fredericks of PLB Wines Ltd. The members were extremely grateful for his generosity,
which helped to raise even more funds for the new Captain's chosen charity.
Many of the members supplied some superb gifts for the raffle prizes, which
raised over £265 for the Pickering Drop-In Centre, based in Tunbridge Wells.
This is the new Captain's charity for 2008 and helps or supports anyone going
through the emotional upset of cancer, from diagnosis onwards, whether patients,
their partners, children, friends, or carers. The Centre caters for people
anywhere in the South East.
Lesley Westaway won the main raffle prize, a hamper full of wonderful goodies.
The Sweetwoods Senior Committee were thanked for all their hard work during
the year, and bouquets were presented to the Captain's wife, Tessa, for her
support over the year, Loreta Strand (received by Migs), Janet Ovendon (who
organised raffle, table decorations and bouquets), and Sue Hay, who took all
the photographs for the evening - a small selection are shown in our gallery.
Apologies if you were not included!
